2012 Olympic Games {woodleaf}

My neighbor had the idea of doing an Olympic party for our kids.
A couple others of us threw in some ideas and this is what it became.

We kicked off our olympic games by making family flags for the opening ceremonies.  Everyone  marched into the arena proudly bearing their colors.  (A few of the older boys thought this was lame but didn't mind carrying the torch even though, as he pointed out, it was not real fire.)
Let the 2012 Olympic Games commence!
Relay races.
Weight lifting.
High jump.
Shot put.
With water balloons.
We thought letting young children, with undeveloped aiming skills, throw a heavy metal ball might not be the best idea.  A disclaimer--the targets were volunteers, willingly subjecting themselves to whatever might ensue.  And let me tell you the competitors did not stay this calm for long.
Balance beam and fencing.
Somehow became one event.
Our games wrapped up with Olympic-themed snacks.
Cute cupcakes and star-shaped slices of watermelon.
Gold medals for everyone.
Because we are all winners, right!
I thought they were going to put up one finger for #1 but they put up two.
For peace, I guess.  Way to go, kiddos.

Gold medals go to Jess and Chris, too, for all the hard work they put into the
2012 Woodleaf Olympics!

Hiking + loving the sunshine

Went on a hike in our local area
pulled out the baby backpack and
surprise!
it was full of candy.  The day was already a success.

With sugar in our veins, we set out.

At the top is a fire lookout tower.
You can see forever in all directions.
ok.  not forever.  but pretty far.

Photo ops!

We threw some rocks.  Almost made it to the reservoir.  Almost.

These abandoned logs were perfect for playing "forest faces".
We took different pieces of the trees and put them together to make faces.

Seen any faces in the forest lately?
